Last Day in Hawaii

We packed last night so we were ready to spend as much time as possible enjoying our last day in Hawaii!  The girls had one final request before we left the island and since it was all the way up in the North Beach area we decided it needed to be done first in case we hit traffic on the way back... so we were off to get Matsumoto's Shaved Ice for BREAKFAST... supposedly it is melt-in-your-mouth incredible!  But we were so early that it wasn't open so while we waited for it to open we went to a local beach for more handstand pics...

Goodbye palm trees, we will miss you...

Goodbye sand and surf, we will miss you...

Hello Matsumoto Shave Ice...

WOW, I'm not a big shaved ice fan but this was pretty good... lots of flavors to choose from...

And a great consistency...

P.S. This was the Hawaiian Rainbow which was Strawberry, Lemon and Pineapple... YUM!!!

After enjoying our shaved ice, we headed for Pearl Harbor...

I was really impressed with how many people were waiting in line to see all of the memorial sites at Pearl Harbor!  We got in line to see the USS Arizona battleship which is still in the water... you can see it from the memorial building because there is a section of the floor that is glass!  Unfortunately, a boat ran into and damaged the dock at the USS Arizona site so the ferry was unable to dock and allow people to get off.  We decided to not do the tour since all you could do was ride the ferry around the site.  You can see the memorial site in the picture below... it is the white building in the water on the left side of the photograph...

Here's a better picture of the memorial building...

Since we were unable to see the Arizona, we went to Ford Island, a military base so thanks to our host for escorting us there, so that we could see the USS Utah which is in shallower water so you can actually still see a section sticking out of the water...

Such a sad day...

But the memorials are beautiful...

After visiting Pearl Harbor we decided to head back home and get ready for our flight!  Our last few moments included eating one more mango that we handpicked off the tree and taking the dog for a walk...

We will definitely miss our Hawaii family... they have been great hosts!!! Thank you guys for opening up your home to us and touring Hawaii with us!!!  Aloha and Mahalo!!!
