Pohick Bay Yesterday

I think this might be my favorite orienteering location of the year.  First of all, when you walk down the hill from the parking lot, you get this view as you approach the registration table...

And then the registration table is not only overlooking the water but is literally over the water on the back deck of this building...

There were tables and chairs set up on the deck too.  It was a nice place to relax after running in the woods.  They even had a mini-fridge/freezer with popsicles and ice cream for the orienteers... kids and adults were definitely enjoying the cool treat on a hot day.  The deck was also a great place to catch up with other racers.  I enjoyed a nice conversation with a fellow orienteer who may end up being my connection to getting an Antarctica handstand;)  I don't necessarily have to go but I would definitely like a handstand picture on all 7 continents!  P.S. Thanks for taking these next couple handstand pics for me!

If you look carefully at the handstand on the bridge, in the picture above, you can actually see the finish too!  I enjoyed the network of trails, power-lines, and water features on the course... it was hard to ever be too lost.  I have to laugh at the fact that my biggest error was going from 3 to 4 because they were probably less than 100 meters apart... oops... for once, instead of over-running, I didn't run far enough... go figure.  Overall it was a great run at a really great location!  Thanks QOC for making handstand pics like this possible...
