Trapeze School... Living A Dream

I have always wanted to swing on a trapeze and today I fulfilled that childhood dream...

Thank you to the Trapeze School New York for teaching me and my homeschool gymnastics team how to fly!  We loved every minute of it... from the climbing of the ladder...

to the charts on the wall...

WE LOVED IT ALL!!!

Our day started early in the morning with excitement and a few nerves!!!  We carpooled to TSNY since parking in DC can be a challenge... P.S. We had great luck with street parking but ended up paying multiple meters before we found one that actually printed us a parking receipt... really our impatience got the better of us so by the end we had at least four, 3 hour parking receipts... haha!

Anyway, we arrived early and the doors were locked so we took a bunch of handstand pictures out front!  It is hard to believe that it is June 4th and we were freezing but we were so we decided to huddle by the door and maybe someone would let us in... success, we're in and taking more handstand pictures...

It was so exciting to even be in the facility!  I was like a little kid in Disney!!!  We pre-signed our waivers online so there was not a lot to be done once our 10:45 class began.  We met our instructors, listened to directions, got our harnesses on (super tight), watched a quick demo by one of the instructors then we were ready to go!  We spent our whole first class building up to the knee hang & catch... this included swings, lazy kicks, and a back flip dismount but the coolest part was definitely "The Catch" so here is my play-by-play... P.S. I went FIRST...

We began on the platform with a "ready" from the instructor who was catching which meant bend your knees then a "hup" which meant jump off the platform...

We were immediately flying through the air...

While listening intently for our next direction...

Knees up...

It is not as hard as it looks as long as you did it at the exact moment you were told to!  There was definitely a right moment and a wrong moment...

After we hooked our knees, we kept our feet together and pressed our heals down (some of us so much so that our calves were sore)...

We then released our hands...

And reached for our catcher with catching hands (thumbs up, hands turned out) while holding very still ... most of us holding our breath too...

Wait for it...

Wait for it...

"Gotcha"...

Then a rush of excitement... and relief for some of us...

As we fly through the air again but this time in the hands of a very capable instructor...

So much fun...

flying...

and releasing...

falling...

to a fun landing...

in the safety net...

We then exited the net by way of the little red box...

We would lay on our belly and grab the two handles...

And roll off the net as if we were forward rolling off a bar at the gym with backwards grip...

Hooray for gymnastics moves in trapeze school...

Pure joy...

A dream come true...

It was an amazing day for everyone!!! I'm so proud of all of my girls!!!  They picked up directions so quickly and were so supportive of each other!!!  Way to go girls!!!

Thank you to our instructors... Mandy, Remi, Rex, and Becca... You guys had so much energy and such passion for what you love that we couldn't help but be excited and inspired!!!  Trapeze school has been on my bucket list for quite a while and you guys totally exceeded all of my expectations!!!

P.S. Thanks for catching all of my girls!!!
